I’m training full time with Marie Morgan and clinicing regularly with Debbie Bowman. As for my beloved OTTB, Cadence and I are on our journey to Third Level!!!!! He’s such a special horse. He’s been very successful with solid scores in Second Level at recognized shows and have qualified our Second Level Freestyle for USDF/GAIG Region 9 & SWDC Championships. In addition, we are focusing our schooling efforts on Third.

OTTB Gold’s Anatomy Excels at Natural Horsemanship Clinic

This past weekend Laura’s Pony Club had a three day Karen Scholl natural horsemanship clinic and Laura took Goldie. The horses had to wear hula hoops and balloons, walk over tarps and have them pulled over the top of their heads. They eventually were riding around with a halter and lead rope with a huge moving pink balloon blowing around in the middle of the arena while Karen cracked a whip. Goldie was a star!!! No one could believe he is a five year old Thoroughbred off the track, he handled everything so well.

Retraining Thoroughbreds Takes Time and Patience

I never thought I would love a Thoroughbred this much — having always ridden Quarter Horses. Now, I have a much more open mind and he has certainly changed the my perception of what the breed is truly about. I think you need a lot of patience with them, yes they are sensitive, but WOW when you channel it all into the job or work they do, it’s incredible how loyal and smart they are.
