Cadence Steps Up to First Show Challenges

May 22, 2008

I am so proud of Cadence! He was a trooper…after a very rocky start. It took four people two hours to load him on the trailer, which is completely out of character for him because he usually walks right on. This was the first time he’s ever seriously challenged authority, but in the end he did get on. He just was in a very sour mood – charging, throwing his weight into people, even after lunging…finally had to have one of my trainer friends put him in his place and then he loaded. On the return home, he loaded on the second try, no problems.

Here are a few pictures of Loco in black tie… He is so dark now; we may start calling him “Tux”! He has put on a few pounds and has built some new muscles. Loco is absolutely wonderful to train. He tries so hard. He is using his hind end more and collects well for…

Old Dogs Can Learn New Tricks – You Are Never Too Old For a Lesson

Feb 28, 2010

I am finally sitting down to write a long overdue update about Loverboy…I say overdue because we have been so productive and had so many great moments in the last few months that I don’t know where to begin!  Due to a run of sick kids, rain, and wicked cold weather, I actually suffered through a…

Buying an OTTB Can Raise Eyebrows

Jul 2, 2009

Amanda experienced what a lot of buyers of off-the-track Thoroughbreds experience – negative comments from people who know nothing about OTTBs. She was told inaccurate and totally ridiculous stories about what to expect from an off-the-track Thoroughbred.

Lovers Quarrel Loves Peppermints, Jumping and His New Career and Home!

Nov 9, 2008

Just a note to tell you how much we love this new boy – he constantly amazes us with how level headed and sweet he is. Took him out today to the ring and he surprised me that he knew how to longe already! After a bit of W/T/C each direction I then proceeded to…

Straight From the Horse’s Mouth – Tucks St. Aly Checks In from Texas

Apr 13, 2009

Well, first off, let me tell you, the honeymoon is over! This girl now, instead of giving me 3 peppermints every time she comes to see me….now only gives me maybe 3 or 6 per day. Imagine that, peppermint consumption going from 30 per day to only maybe 6 per day….I’m sure you feel for me. Not only that, but we are finally in a dadgum thing called a ‘regime’. Instead of getting 4 or 5 meals a day, as when I first got here, it’s now back to 3, and no 30 minutes early stuff either.

Muchu Cold, Muchu Good

Mar 20, 2012

Muchu (aka “Shu”) and Patrick have settled in together beyond my wildest dreams. At this point in time “Shu” has been off the track only 8 months and my son has only been riding the same 8 months, yet they are seamless in their bond. There have been periods when the girls have not been able to go out for a week at a time due to weather, and despite pent up energy, “Shu” always takes care of him the minute he puts his foot in the stirrup.
