OTTB Gold’s Anatomy Excels at Natural Horsemanship Clinic

May 6, 2009

This past weekend Laura’s Pony Club had a three day Karen Scholl natural horsemanship clinic and Laura took Goldie. The horses had to wear hula hoops and balloons, walk over tarps and have them pulled over the top of their heads. They eventually were riding around with a halter and lead rope with a huge moving pink balloon blowing around in the middle of the arena while Karen cracked a whip. Goldie was a star!!! No one could believe he is a five year old Thoroughbred off the track, he handled everything so well.

OTTB “Sully’s” Sunny Attitude Marvels All

Nov 2, 2008

“Sullivan” is finally looking like a grey! His coat has darkened considerably since he has been on night turnout during the summer months. I’m hoping he will keep his black points. He has two pasture buddies, a large retired, carriage pulling draft and another grey. The grey is the same age as “Sully” so it…

More Firsts! Canter, Trail Ride, Jump

Feb 26, 2009

I didn’t expect that we would canter so soon, but I was really excited, and I know I was extremely tensed up and I could tell Aly was being a bit pushy for one of the first times since I’ve seen him, when we were trotting on the longe line, waiting for me to be ready. It was so incredible for me to see how after we got into that first canter, how he calmed down, back to the business-like, happy boy that he is. He KNEW that we were ready to step up to the next level, and he didn’t want any backing out on my part!

From my last email till now he improved a lot and I decided to give it a try and entered in the Poplar Place schooling show last weekend. And I can tell you he was great…I had entered us in a 2′ jumper class and the Intro A Dressage Test.

The Dr. Checks In – Dr. Kenny Winn That Is

Jan 6, 2010

Kwinn (Dr. Kenny Winn)has done so well at his new barn. The change to a smaller, quieter barn has done wonders for him. Funny thing is Kwinn will adjust to just about any horse. If they like to play, he’s right there for the fun. If they want to just kick back and relax, he’ll do the same thing. I also think that as more time goes by with him being off the track, we are seeing different aspects of his personality come out. He’s still quite sweet, but he can be a character at times. He’s learned to pull his extra blanket off the rack and toss it across the barn floor.
