Rocky Bear & Elizabeth

Rocky Bear and Bits & Bytes Farm owner - Elizabeth

This Web site was created to tell the stories of the Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds Bits & Bytes Farm has sold. The Mission of Bits & Bytes Farm is to help sellers (of Thoroughbred racehorses for sale) to find buyers who have the ability to transition these horses to new careers. We offer assistance and guidance to make sure the horses we sell are successfully placed. Our Success Stories are proof that Thoroughbred racehorses make great sport horses and family members when their racing careers are over.

When a horse is purchased with the assistance of Bits & Bytes Farm, we require the new owners to stay in touch and provide us with updates. These updates are posted on our Success Stories pages so that the sellers of the horses know that their horses are doing well and have not gone back to racing or been slaughtered. The sellers care about these wonderful Thoroughbreds and they too enjoy reading about their horses' successful new careers. They often call or e-mail to thank us for finding a home for a horse they bred or trained. To learn more about Bits & Bytes Farm and our mission please visit our Web site at: www.BitsandBytesFarm.com.

“Irish’s” First Day in Maine includes First Lesson

Irish looks good. We started him on a good feeding program (CarbSafe, beet pulp and corn oil). My farrier and dentist are coming this week. We had our first lesson today and it was great! We worked on the ground for half the lesson, then I got on and did some walk, trot, and halt work. Didn’t do too much.…

Jo Sly Pack’s New Career is Going Well

Jo Sly Pack is solidly showing training level and schooling first level. We have been doing some three phases and that is his talent. He will jump anything you point him at. People are shocked when I tell them how old he is. He is the only five year old TB I know that can gallop in a field and come right back to you and walk around on a loose rein.

Two Years Off the Track “Cadence” Makes Great Strides

“Cadence” aka Cold Cash – we qualified for the Southwest Dressage Championships last year (Oct 2008) and we placed 6th with 66.4% in Training Level. In addition, we placed in all classes we entered (First Level Test 1 (2nd pl 63%) and 4 (6th pl 58%) and First Level 4 (4th pl 63%)). We ended the year with two 66%s First Level 4 at a schooling show in which I was so proud of” Cadence” because it was the first time he really relaxed and gained confidence in the arena.

Great Game and Chuck Dixon

Round and Round She Goes

I used some warm water to get the worst of the newly acquired mud cakes off of her since this morning and she was fine with that and all—-except….the Show Sheen……now I see her tucking her hindquarters under and elevating her forehand and balance and energy—-when doing a circle….a very small circle….about an arms length actually —around me—while I held the halter with one hand—and sprayed while she ran around me in the other hand…..Patrick was dying laughing and took great pleasure in telling me “Dad—you know she really can step under and cross over pretty well now”

Team “Splash Protect” Flourishing After First Year Together

Here is Splash Protect’s, “Finnegan’s”, long overdue success story. Well it’s been more than a year since I began my OTTB adventure. Win For Morgan Is Better Than Expected

Win For Morgan’s first Success Story: Tall and young was what I was interested in and that’s what Win For Morgan (now known as “Fitch” in the barn) was. That didn’t convince anyone that buying him was a good idea though. The whole “sight unseen” part of buying him made everyone nervous, but then again none of them had talked to Elizabeth but me. . .
