Rocky Bear & Elizabeth

Rocky Bear and Bits & Bytes Farm owner - Elizabeth

This Web site was created to tell the stories of the Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds Bits & Bytes Farm has sold. The Mission of Bits & Bytes Farm is to help sellers (of Thoroughbred racehorses for sale) to find buyers who have the ability to transition these horses to new careers. We offer assistance and guidance to make sure the horses we sell are successfully placed. Our Success Stories are proof that Thoroughbred racehorses make great sport horses and family members when their racing careers are over.

When a horse is purchased with the assistance of Bits & Bytes Farm, we require the new owners to stay in touch and provide us with updates. These updates are posted on our Success Stories pages so that the sellers of the horses know that their horses are doing well and have not gone back to racing or been slaughtered. The sellers care about these wonderful Thoroughbreds and they too enjoy reading about their horses' successful new careers. They often call or e-mail to thank us for finding a home for a horse they bred or trained. To learn more about Bits & Bytes Farm and our mission please visit our Web site at: www.BitsandBytesFarm.com.

Breaking the “Icy” with Mares is Tough

Another story for you…Icy is getting along fine and does well with Coin, Dudley and the Appys. I think there is a consortium of mares (led by Leslie’s big chestnut Thoroughbred) to keep him from really getting into the herd yet. I found him down in the stall (our barn has a section of wash…

Dare to Dream

Jill sent me a photo of Game she took the other day at the stable—Game just being Game—32 years ago I painted that exact picture—in every detail except the background when I was first married to Carrie—told her then it was my “dream horse.” I am no good drawing or painting–it was the only painting I ever did—we kept the thing for years and it has disappeared in one of our moves…but when Carrie saw the photo she knew it immediately—the pose—the placement of the legs-the head—every detail of the horse to the coloring and shading was exact.

Having a Horse in your Life is a Gift. . .Words of Inspiration we all Appreciate

To have a horse in your life is a gift. In the matter of a few short years, a horse can teach a young girl courage, if she chooses to grab mane and hang on for dear life. Even the smallest of ponies is mightier than the tallest of girls. To conquer the fear of falling off, having one’s toes crushed, or being publicly humiliated at a horse show is an admirable feat for any child. For that, we can be grateful.

Grayboo and Amanda Cross Country with the Big Guys

I’m just SO excited about Grayboo that I have to share it. Amanda and Grayboo competed this weekend at River Glen. They were in the Training Rider Division – there was no junior division so they competed against juniors and adults (a class size of 22). They had a very good dressage test and scored…

Walls, Coops and Panels Oh My . . .

Wolfie moved up to 2?3? division this time around…. which should have been easy peezy as we were doing 2?3? – 2?6? at home….
However what I did NOT know was that at the 2?3? they bring out the walls, coops, panels and every other sort of imaginable solid, horse eating fence!

Who’s Exercising Who?

Then I got an idea, I started jogging around the circle where he normally lunges and kissed to him, he walked after me, but as I directed more energy to him and encouraged him he picked up a trot and followed me right around; we circled, and went both ways, all the while Aly trotting along so briskly after me! Then I thought, oh my goodness this is glorious, and had to try even more, so I veered off, down the pasture, and sped up a bit – he followed right along, tossing his head. We must have played like that for a good hour off and on, and I could tell we both had a blast.
