We just got back in from the camping trip. We had a wonderful time! Maverick was absolutely the best! He got ridden six times! He munched on lots of new clover and loved all the attention, as always, since he was the BIG horse and would stick his head way out and stretch his neck way out from the stall. He’d nicker when he heard us stirring around the camp site.

I never thought I would love a Thoroughbred this much — having always ridden Quarter Horses. Now, I have a much more open mind and he has certainly changed the my perception of what the breed is truly about. I think you need a lot of patience with them, yes they are sensitive, but WOW when you channel it all into the job or work they do, it’s incredible how loyal and smart they are.

We’re keeping him barefoot, so we’ve been letting him adjust to being shoeless for the past few months. His feet are coming along very nicely and he should be sound enough to begin learning to jump!…

Elizabeth, Thanks for the response. No worries. We are going S-L-O-W, primarily bc. of the extreme heat here in Memphis. Goldie huffs and puffs. He’s getting hosed down round the clock. Despite that, he’s still a love and dealing w/ his frequent presence in the wash rack with relative patience. We have him on One…
