Rocky Bear & Elizabeth

Rocky Bear and Bits & Bytes Farm owner - Elizabeth

This Web site was created to tell the stories of the Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds Bits & Bytes Farm has sold. The Mission of Bits & Bytes Farm is to help sellers (of Thoroughbred racehorses for sale) to find buyers who have the ability to transition these horses to new careers. We offer assistance and guidance to make sure the horses we sell are successfully placed. Our Success Stories are proof that Thoroughbred racehorses make great sport horses and family members when their racing careers are over.

When a horse is purchased with the assistance of Bits & Bytes Farm, we require the new owners to stay in touch and provide us with updates. These updates are posted on our Success Stories pages so that the sellers of the horses know that their horses are doing well and have not gone back to racing or been slaughtered. The sellers care about these wonderful Thoroughbreds and they too enjoy reading about their horses' successful new careers. They often call or e-mail to thank us for finding a home for a horse they bred or trained. To learn more about Bits & Bytes Farm and our mission please visit our Web site at: www.BitsandBytesFarm.com.

Deny & Liz’s Success Story

I have been riding and competing in the hunter/jumper world my whole life and leased an OTTB during high school and college. I knew that when it was time for me to get my next horse I definitely wanted a thoroughbred! As I was researching barn and sale horses I kept coming back to the…

My First Ride on Monarch’s Reign

The last time I was on a horse was more than two years ago, so I’m not exactly an expert rider these days! Plus – and I almost hate to add this, because in retrospect it seems so silly – Monarch’s racing history gave me some reason to doubt my first ride would be a smooth one. After all, he had raced twice in his short career, and he’d lost his jockey BOTH TIMES!

Great Game

Pegasus . . .

It’s at this particular moment you realize that Pegasus isn’t a metaphor for how horses impacted mankind—-it is the very true and real feeling you have when literal wings just unfurl in your heart because of one very special horse and what she gives to one person….and being lucky enuf to be that person…..life is just sooooooooooooooooo good…..

Knight Villain - Sixth Anniversary photo

Gentle Brave Knight Villain

Sixth Year Anniversary update for Knight Villain. He’s sound, whole, happy, fat, and loving his life as a full time trail buddy. He’s kind and gentle with everyone, loves to give “pony rides” to visiting kiddies, yet still turns it on for me out on the galloping track in true race horse fashion. I think he’ll never forget he’s a champion.

I Get By With a Little Help From My “Friends”

I would like to write this update to thank Missy Miller for assisting me with Hollywood Vic while I have unable to ride. Yesterday she gave Hollywood a great workout, lunging him as well as riding him. I am proud to say that he was a wonderful. He was very well behaved for her after not having anyone on his back for almost a month!

Voted Off: Off-the-Track in 2006 Update 2011

It’s been years since I sent you an update, but I thought you might like to know how Voted Off is doing. His primary job has been as my husband’s trail horse for the last 5 years. About six months ago, my 6 year old daughter started riding him too. You might remember a picture of her you posted on your web site on her rocking horse when she was 2. Well, she has swapped out the rocking horse for Voted Off.

Heather’s Best After Six Years

Heather’s Best’s health has been perfect, he is still 100 percent sound, and the same slightly mischievous Heather lol! I get his hocks injected about once a year but that is it, and he still LOVES jumping!

Great Game and Chuck Dixon

Round and Round She Goes

I used some warm water to get the worst of the newly acquired mud cakes off of her since this morning and she was fine with that and all—-except….the Show Sheen……now I see her tucking her hindquarters under and elevating her forehand and balance and energy—-when doing a circle….a very small circle….about an arms length actually —around me—while I held the halter with one hand—and sprayed while she ran around me in the other hand…..Patrick was dying laughing and took great pleasure in telling me “Dad—you know she really can step under and cross over pretty well now”

Sec Cat – “Cat Napping with the Chickens”

Sec Cat aka “Lexington” aka “Lex” has started to settle in to his new home. He has a very sweet nature. He can bend and flex (even to the right). As long as his brain is busy working, he doesn’t spook at all the new things around. Today was a true challenge. I turned the…

Breaking Free one week off-the-track

One Week Update for “Freeby”

Breaking Free aka “Freeby” has come along so quickly already. He is straighter, more confirmed in the connection, and the canter improves each ride in terms of balance and we almost have a proper transition already. He is also hacking out and trotting ground poles and exercises in my field at home.
