Rocky Bear & Elizabeth

Rocky Bear and Bits & Bytes Farm owner - Elizabeth

This Web site was created to tell the stories of the Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds Bits & Bytes Farm has sold. The Mission of Bits & Bytes Farm is to help sellers (of Thoroughbred racehorses for sale) to find buyers who have the ability to transition these horses to new careers. We offer assistance and guidance to make sure the horses we sell are successfully placed. Our Success Stories are proof that Thoroughbred racehorses make great sport horses and family members when their racing careers are over.

When a horse is purchased with the assistance of Bits & Bytes Farm, we require the new owners to stay in touch and provide us with updates. These updates are posted on our Success Stories pages so that the sellers of the horses know that their horses are doing well and have not gone back to racing or been slaughtered. The sellers care about these wonderful Thoroughbreds and they too enjoy reading about their horses' successful new careers. They often call or e-mail to thank us for finding a home for a horse they bred or trained. To learn more about Bits & Bytes Farm and our mission please visit our Web site at: www.BitsandBytesFarm.com.

First Ride on Gold Commander One

Dear Michelle and Elizabeth, UPDATE: Attached is a photo, not worthy of posting anywhere, but nonetheless evidence of my first ride. I think the trainer is being particularly cautious. I appreciate her caution, but at the same time, I know Gold and I could be making a little more progress. However, I should not discount…

Gold Commander One

Diplomatic Conversions

Hi Michelle and Elizabeth, I hope this note finds you both well, along with your respective families. Memphis got a respite from ridiculous temperatures and humidity, to Goldie’s and my benefit. His skin and coat look good…the bumps are gone. He is sweating more naturally now. I think you can tell from this photo that…

First Ride on a Fire Breathing Dragon

There were some reservations about me getting a fire breathing dragon that is going to eat small children…I said that job belongs to my pug.

We had a great ride today. . .

Mr. Mully Trains Exceptionally Well at Recent Clinic

Recently Mully and I attended an Eric Smiley three-day clinic. We prepared well for the clinic and I was really excited to ride with Eric once again. He comes every year and if we’re lucky he comes twice. This was only Mully’s second clinic and having a really rough road to recovery from complicated splint…

Dr. Sidney in the pasture

Dr. Sidney Settles In at Home

Sidney has officially made it through his first day, I attached a few pics of him in the pasture. He is a bit of a worrier, I can tell that he feels safer in his stall at the moment, he did finally settle in the pasture but stood at the very far end, looking off into the distance, I went down to talk to him and offer water a few times and he was fine about me approaching. . .

Tough Competition Rallies Phil’s Courage

I have a couple of updates regarding Phil’s Courage. The first update is that I had a buyer for Phil who was ready to write quite a large check and I couldn’t go through with the sale. I broke down in tears and just couldn’t part with him. My husband thinks I have gone insane,…

First Lesson on Antioch

Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds are easy to train but it sometimes helps to have someone coaching and encouraging you. Too often all you get is criticism because of peoples’ lack of knowledge about ex-race horses.

Carrots Please for the Mighty Kwinn

Dear Elizabeth, Hope this finds you well. We are all fine here, just very busy as usual, what with the boys’ activities, work, etc. Back in April, I broke a bone in my right foot. Wish I could say it was from something like kickboxing, but I literally twisted my foot falling off my shoes.…
