Rocky Bear and Bits & Bytes Farm owner - Elizabeth
This Web site was created to tell the stories of the Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds Bits & Bytes Farm has sold. The Mission of Bits & Bytes Farm is to help sellers (of Thoroughbred racehorses for sale) to find buyers who have the ability to transition these horses to new careers. We offer assistance and guidance to make sure the horses we sell are successfully placed. Our Success Stories are proof that Thoroughbred racehorses make great sport horses and family members when their racing careers are over.
When a horse is purchased with the assistance of Bits & Bytes Farm, we require the new owners to stay in touch and provide us with updates. These updates are posted on our Success Stories pages so that the sellers of the horses know that their horses are doing well and have not gone back to racing or been slaughtered. The sellers care about these wonderful Thoroughbreds and they too enjoy reading about their horses' successful new careers. They often call or e-mail to thank us for finding a home for a horse they bred or trained. To learn more about Bits & Bytes Farm and our mission please visit our Web site at: www.BitsandBytesFarm.com.

I Get By With a Little Help From My “Friends”
I would like to write this update to thank Missy Miller for assisting me with Hollywood Vic while I have unable to ride. Yesterday she gave Hollywood a great workout, lunging him as well as riding him. I am proud to say that he was a wonderful. He was very well behaved for her after not having anyone on his back for almost a month!
Grayboo Moves Up to Prelim
I have an exciting update on Grayboo and Amanda. They had a dressage score of 39 – not bad for their first attempt at this level and then proceeded to jump a clean stadium round. The course was not ideal for Grayboo – it was very spread out and gave Grayboo a chance to build speed from jump to jump, but Amanda managed to get him around OK (that and he absolutely can’t stand to touch a jump). Grayboo was an absolute super star on cross country – he jumped clean and Amanda finished 7 seconds over the optimum time, so added 2.8 penalties to their dressage score. I was surprised that Amanda was able to finish close to time her first time out. They finished 10th in a large Open Prelim division of 24.
Runaway Groom – I think not.
I’m forwarding some pics my daughter took of me and my new groom. I’m having a wonderful time with him. We had our first canter today! He is very quiet (hasn’t done anything stupid at all!), smart and willing. In fact, I’m reading the book “Beyond the Track” and he doesn’t fit in at all!…
Buying Blind Works Out Fine
Good to hear from you, Elizabeth. I keep an eye on your web site (for fun – love to see the horses) so I know you’ve been busy. I’m attaching a few pictures of Cait and Taxi that I took yesterday. Both are doing great. When we decided to buy a horse sight unseen and…
Fast Commander – Nice to Meet the New You
Commander has had a personality change for the better almost immediately after being gelded. I’ve been on him once on the lunge line, just walking & trotting. That didn’t seem to bother him in the least. I’ve mostly been working with him on the ground & lunging. He’s still pretty swollen though he doesn’t seem…
Mary Misbehavin Meets Her Mom
Leslie made it home this weekend for the first time since August and finally got to meet Mary Violet (Mary Misbhavin). It was mutual love at first real sight. MV is super sweet. Leslie rode her in the round pen – trotted and cantered, and they did great! We’re going to ride in the big arena today. I just wanted to get you some pictures.
Titania aka “Titanium” SOLD! November 2008
SOLD! Congratulations to Michelle Stupay of Ashburn, VA. Here was Titania’s Prospect Horse FOR SALE information: Titania is a 2004, 15’1hh, chestnut filly. She is a great little girl with tons of personality. Very smart little mover would fit the dressage ring to a tee. She has a great mind and she is very sweet…
Sweet Things in Texas for Better Be There
I am very happy – he is so sweet. He loves to have his face rubbed. He does need some weight on him. I am giving him Omelene 200 and alfalfa so far, now I have only had him since Friday afternoon so any suggestions would be great. He does not seem to like grass…
Enjoying Life After Racing
We had a perfect day today (weather) and both horses took full advantage of it on the soft ground. Thought you’d enjoy seeing Taxi with Cait’s other horse, Pepper. We’ve never had two horses lay down together like this. We were working on the fence near them so after seeing if we needed any help they decided to crash.
Every Adult Woman will Appreciate – Your Husband on Your Horse!?!
Outflankem aka “Bailey” is still learning to give to the bit, but Neil is doing a great job of keeping his hands and seat quiet, and it’s taking less and less time for Bailey to relax and reach down. I may be biased, but I think they look very handsome together!
